Warmth From Afar, 2023

Welded steel light box, handmade papers, sumi ink, Raspberry Pi connected to realtime sea temperature data off the coast of Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, Tristan da Cunha Island (Latitude: -37.05918500762661, Longitude: -12.325948461967084)

The light colours in this piece are linked to real-time sea temperature data from the waters surrounding Tristan da Cunha, the world’s most remote inhabited island. As the sea temperature fluctuates, the lightbox shifts from red for warmer temperatures to blue for cooler ones, gradually transitioning through the colour spectrum. This work functions as a hybrid map, merging analogue and digital elements to create a portal into imagined topographies, while remaining anchored to the tangible reality of a distant oceanic landscape.
